GROUNDHOG INFESTATION
Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks, are
large, ground-dwelling rodents. Adults
average
about ten pounds. They are strictly
vegetarians.
Groundogs dig large, complex, interconnecting
burrows. They are excellent and prolific
diggers. Each spring, a female gives
birth
to 4-6 young. Groundhogs are true hibernators
in the northern parts of their range.
The
spring emergence always occurs exactly
on
February 2nd.
Disease Ground hogs may carry fleas and are susceptible to mange and rabies, although it is not very common. Damage to homes and property Groundhogs can cause very extensive damage to gardens, as this provides them with a plentiful and ready source of food. The burrowing by ground hogs can damage foundation/under-structures of buildings, as whatever support system and flooring system won't be evenly distributed any more as he displaces more dirt under there. The holes created by their burrows can also be dangerous for horses and livestock, as they create an hidden cavity into which the animal can step into and break its leg. Need for Professional Help It is a good idea to get professional help with this stubborn intruder, as its extensive burrowing may create unseen problems which we can help identify. Also this critter can deliver quite a bite and can be dangerous if cornered. Call us if you need help with a Groundhog Problem 703-232-0857
