The reasoning behind ridding your house or property of a dead animal is pretty self explanatory; the odor can linger for an incredibly long time, the parasites living and reproducing on a rotting body can pose a health hazard, the fluids can damage structures and stain walls, not to mention that it's just all around disgusting.

Disease
Rotting animals will attract maggots and flies in huge numbers, which will fly from the rotting body into the rest of your household, carrying any nasty germs that were on the body. Dead animals are often crawling with parasitic microbes, insects and maggots. Also whatever may have killed it could be dangerous to humans. The fleas, ticks and mites that lived on the animal will want to look for new hosts and possibly spread disease.

Damage to homes and property
Rotting animals can do some damage to dwellings, due to the fluids that drain from the body and cause moisture exposure and staining to wood and drywall. The health hazard and smell they present will cause a loss of quality of life for the residents of the household.

Finding a dead animal may not be as simple as it sounds, they may be lodged in hard-to-reach places, and it may be very difficult to pinpoint exactly where they are. It can take hours of crawling around in tight spaces to find it.
